In 2004, Heli Kurjanen, Lunette founder and owner, ordered a menstrual cup from an online shop. She encountered some problems using it, but was thrilled about the idea of the product. Heli was convinced that the product could be better and decided to design her own improved menstrual cup that was easier and safer to use. The Lunette menstrual cup was born!
Unlike other menstrual cups, the Lunette cup is completely smooth on the inside which makes it much easier to clean. The tab is flat so no bacteria can gather there. The length, rim and shape are designed for maximum comfort and is compatible for a wider spectrum of women.
In late 2005, Lunette was brought to the Finnish market where it achieved strong sales, and by the end of that year, Lunette was also available online for international customers. Within a short period of time, Heli was no longer a housewife, but a successful entrepreneur.
The growth of Lunette continued throughout 2006 and the cup became widely available in Finnish pharmacies. In 2007, Lunette expanded into European and global markets.
By 2007, Lunette menstrual cups were also made available in German pharmacies, and the year after, Slovenian and Austrian pharmacies started carrying the cups. In late 2009 Lunette got both TGA and FDA approvals; a license to sell Lunette cups in Australia and in USA.
Today Lunette is sold in several European countries, in some African and South American countries, Australia, New Zealand and in the USA. In addition to that, online sales offers Lunette products to more than 40 countries worldwide.
